Economist: Feedlot returns eroding

Feedlot operators and lenders should remain extra diligent in monitoring profitability.

Given the multitude of adjustments underway in the cattle markets, Kansas State University livestock economist Glynn Tonsor said it is useful to assess most recent estimates of closeout returns in Kansas State’s "Kansas Feedlot Net Return" series to extend the understanding of the current situation feedlots face.

This most recent report, which provides both historical and projected return information, indicates that expected returns have eroded notably since last month, he said.
