Cuba amendments advance in Senate

Amendment to loosen Cuba financing restrictions included in financial services appropriations bill.

This week as the Senate Financial Services Appropriations Bill was marked up, several pro-Cuba amendments were attached. Coalition members continued to solicit cosponsors onto pro-Cuba legislation and garnered support for pro-Cuba appropriations amendments.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations voted 22 to 8 to add Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D., N.D.) and John Boozman’s (R., Ark.) bipartisan bill that would expand U.S. agricultural exports to Cuba to the financial services spending
