U.S. corn planting was 45% completed as of May 1, up 15 points in a week despite cool, wet conditions over much of the country then, but the number was down a few points from trade forecasts.
The 45% rate for corn matched last year’s pace but was up 15 points from the five-year average. Gains were made throughout the Midwest, with Iowa planting up 17 points to 57%, Illinois up 24 points to 6
