Crop production figures lower than anticipated

Grain trade still expects larger yields despite USDA reports coming in less bullish.

THE U.S. Department of Agriculture released the October "World Agricultural Supply & Demand Estimates" (WASDE) and "Crop Production" reports Oct. 10 in which it moderately increased both corn and soybean production. However, the increases were not as large as the trade had expected.

Corn production was pegged at 14.5 billion bu. (Table 1), up less than 1% from the previous forecast and up 4% from 2013. The average trade estimate was close, at 1
