Cow/calf producers to shoulder beef expansion

Increasing pork and chicken production could slow down runaway cattle prices in 2015.

THE beef industry reached a pivotal point this summer as producers built momentum by holding back females to restock the U.S. cattle herd.

Jim Robb with the Livestock Marketing Information Center (LMIC) in Denver, Colo., told Feedstuffs that 2014 will be recorded as a clear turning point in the cattle cycle.

Beef producers are cautiously moving forward with expanding herds gradually over the next several years,
