Cargill wins lengthy E. coli lawsuit

Company sued in 2011 Greater Omaha Packing for supplying tainted beef.

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled this week in favor of Cargill Meat Solutions and American Home Assurance Co., Cargill’s insurance company, in a lawsuit against Greater Omaha Packing Co. for supplying the company with Escherichia coli O157:H7-tainted beef. In 2014, the U.S. District Court of Nebraska ruled in favor of Cargill, denying a motion by Greater Omaha to set aside a $9 million judgment, as well as a request for a new trial.
