Canadian collaboration to combat PEDV

PORCINE epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) kills young piglets at an astonishing rate, with a nearly 100% mortality rate in suckling pigs.

A new effort in Canada has been launched to understand and stop the disease in order to protect young pigs and to aid the pig industry in North America.

PEDV first appeared in the U.S. in April 2013, and by January 2014, it had also been detected in Canada, appearing in Prince Edward Island,
