California farmworker overtime bill heads to governor

Western Growers said bill will reduce farmworker income and agricultural production in state.

Legislation by California state assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez (D., San Diego) to establish equitable overtime standards for farmworkers in line with other Californians was approved Aug. 31 on a bipartisan, 44-32 vote by the Assembly. Assembly Bill 1066 continues the effort begun earlier in 2016 by Gonzalez via A.B. 2757 and was sent to California Gov. Jerry Brown for his signature.
