Broiler-type eggs set down slightly

Broiler-type chicks placed increase 2% to 177 million chicks.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest “Broiler Hatchery” report, hatcheries in the U.S. weekly program set 216 million eggs in incubators during the week ending Feb. 13, 2016, down slightly from a year ago. Hatcheries in the 19-state weekly program set 208 million eggs in incubators during the week ending Feb. 13, 2016, down slightly from a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week in the U.S. was 83%.
