Broiler production margins impacted by lower prices

Turkey prices remain elevated despite large supply.

The national composite price for whole broilers at wholesale has been down since mid-July, reaching 79 cents/lb. recently. Prices had been nearing $1.00/lb. during much of June.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest “Livestock, Dairy & Poultry Outlook,” the seasonal dip will likely continue into the fourth quarter. The third- and fourth-quarter forecasts are now 84-86 cents/lb. and 81-87 cents/lb., respectively.
