BOCM PAULS, a U.K. animal feed manufacturer, will spend more than £1.5 million to expand and upgrade the manufacturing, handling and storage facilities at its animal feed mill in Bury St. Edmunds, England, over the next year.
The improvements mean that the Bury mill, as a member of the ForFarmers group, will have a feed production capacity in excess of 200,000 metric tons and will be the largest specialty feed production unit of its kind in Europe.
The expansion plans will increase efficiency and storage capacity by replacing the pelleting press, installing a new bulk storage bin and adding a computer-controlled weighbridge.
"The upgrades and improvements to the creep and compound plants would increase output," operations manager Ketill Lord said. "Additional process weighers and more carousels would reduce the amount of handling. This work should be completed by autumn.
"We need to cater to farmers taking larger loads of feed and speed up the turnaround time to maximize efficiency and reduce costs for haulers and our own fleet," Lord added.
