The BEEF Seedstock 100, the U.S. beef industry’s first listing of the top 100 bull sellers in the U.S., has been published in the January issue of BEEF magazine. The operations were ranked by the total number of bulls each operation sold annually.
“As the value of calves has dramatically increased in the past couple of years, cattlemen have been investing more money in their seedstock purchases to build the genetic quality of their herds. We thought producers would appreciate a one-stop source of information for help in making their bull-buying decisions,” says Joe Roybal, editor of BEEF magazine.
The BEEF Seedstock 100 provides a ranking of America’s top bull sellers, all of whom market more than 200 bulls annually, and provides location, contact and breed information, as well as marketing method and sale dates.
A total of 18 beef cattle breeds are represented in the BEEF Seedstock 100, with Angus being most prevalent. The states of South Dakota, Nebraska and Montana had the most operations in the top 100, followed by Kansas and Colorado, then Texas, Idaho and Wyoming.
The BEEF Seedstock 100 list is available in the January issue of BEEF magazine and on www.BEEFmagazine.com . The project was sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, makers of Cydectin antiparasitics and Pryamid vaccines.
