Beef checkoff reform talks stall

Ag groups urge Vilsack to eliminate conflicts of interest with beef checkoff program.

THE National Farmers Union (NFU) announced last week that its board of directors voted to withdraw from the beef checkoff working group, effective immediately.

"After three years of pushing for real reforms in the beef checkoff program, NFU has decided that the process has become a bridge to nowhere and a waste of time and resources," NFU president Roger Johnson said.
