Bayer AG, Monsanto strike $66b deal

Companies will file for regulatory approval in about 30 different jurisdictions.

Bayer AG and Monsanto officially have reached a merger deal after several months of lengthy negotiations, the companies announced Sept. 14 in a joint statement. Despite the optimism of company executives, many have cast doubt on whether the transaction will actually close and whether the merger is in the best interest of the agriculture industry.
