Antibiotic effects very broad

Scientists suspect antibiotic use can have unwanted effects on immune system, metabolism, obesity, stress and behavior.

RESEARCHERS at Oregon State University have discovered that antibiotics have a broader and more complex impact on the microorganisms that live in an animal's gut than previously known.

The findings help better explain some of the damage these medications can do and set the stage for new ways to study and offset those impacts, the Oregon State announcement said.
