While the 2015 outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) became the largest animal health emergency in U.S. history, vigilance is still needed, especially with outdoor poultry.
In January 2016, an HPAI outbreak of the H7N8 virus was reported in a commercial turkey flock in Dubois County, Ind. No other outbreaks in the U.S. have been detected in domesticated birds since that time.
