Water Rights Protection Act reintroduced in House

Bill would uphold federal deference to state water law and prevent federal takings of privately held water rights.

The Water Rights Protection Act (H.R. 2939), introduced in the House by Rep. Scott Tipton (R., Colo.) on June 21, could bring U.S. ranchers much-needed relief from ongoing efforts by the federal government to extort privately held water rights from law-abiding citizens, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF).
