Reicks receives 2017 Science with Practice Award

Dr. Darwin Reicks received the 2017 Science with Practice Award from the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine. The award, presented at the Iowa State James D. McKean Swine Disease Conference in Ames, Iowa, recognizes exemplary integration of science and the art of veterinary practice to benefit swine productivity and welfare.

Reicks, the owner of Reicks Veterinary Research & Consulting, is a licensed veterinarian in Minnesota, Iowa, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. For 23 years, he has worked with boar studs and swine semen analysis.

Surrounded by a great team, Reicks operates a semen analysis laboratory, research farm, provides management services for 1,800 boars and also works extensively with filtration systems on more than 120 farms.

“Dr. Reicks was one of the early innovators in air filtration for disease control, and that technology is the prominent biosecurity feature now both in boar studs and is becoming very popular in breeding herds as well,” said Dr. Chris Rademacher, Iowa State swine extension veterinarian and chair of the conference committee.

Reicks graduated from Iowa State University in animal science in 1990 and veterinary medicine in 1994.
