DSM to acquire Twilmij to strengthen position in animal nutrition, health

Royal DSM, a global science-based company active in health, nutrition and materials, announced the acquisition of Twilmij B.V., a well-established Dutch nutritional solutions company in the animal feed sector.

DSM's animal nutrition and health strategy is to offer tailor-made solutions to its customers leveraging its product portfolio and innovation capabilities.

DSM said the acquisition of Twilmij will further strengthen its foothold in the northwestern European markets. Twilmij's geographic location in the middle of the Netherlands and near the border with Germany brings DSM closer to its customers and allows it to further improve its service levels.

Since its inception in 1963, Twilmij has successfully grown to achieve net sales of approximately €70 million (50,000 tons of premix production) in 2016. Twilmij is recognized by its customers and other stakeholders as an outstanding partner due to its excellent nutritional services, speed and agility, according to the announcement.

The acquisition also includes Twilmij's affiliated company, Kwalipak B.V., which offers specialty small-pack solutions for specific applications for the feed industry.

Twilmij's core values, customer portfolio and solutions are a perfect fit with DSM's ambitions in the animal nutrition and health market, the company said.

Financial details will not be disclosed at this time. The transaction is subject to customary conditions and is expected to close in the next two to three months.

DSM delivers innovative solutions that nourish, protect and improve performance in global markets such as food and dietary supplements, personal care, feed, medical devices, automotive, paints, electrical and electronics, life protection, alternative energy and bio-based materials. By connecting its unique competences in life science and materials sciences, DSM drives economic prosperity, environmental progress and social advances to create sustainable value for all stakeholders simultaneously.

DSM and its associated companies deliver annual net sales of about €10 billion with approximately 25,000 employees.
