A large amount of turkeys in freezers and large turkey production numbers with no real demand has made for negative margins starting in the third quarter, according to David Williams, director of the Agribusiness Intelligence Protein Group at Informa IEG.
U.S. Department of Agriculture numbers showed that turkey production in June totaled 522 million lb., 2% below the same month in 2016. The total for second-quarter production was 1.481 billion lb.
