LIVESTOCK MARKETS: U.S. red meat exports maintain strong pace

Mexico's appetite for U.S. pork shows no sign of letting up.

January exports of U.S. beef and pork were up significantly year over year, maintaining the solid momentum established in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to statistics released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and compiled by the U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF).

Beef exports totaled 96,488 metric tons (mt), up 17% from a year ago; they were valued at $515.5 million, up 18% and the highest ever for the month of January. Exports accounted for 12.2% of total beef productio
