LIVESTOCK MARKETS: Red meat, poultry inventory declines in February

Beef supplies fall more than typically seen this time of year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's latest “Cold Storage” showed that the total inventory of beef, pork, chicken and turkey as of Feb. 28, 2017, was 2.2 billion lb., a 1.6% decrease from last year but 2.9% higher than January.

Steiner Consulting Group (SCG) in the “Daily Livestock Report” said the pace of increase in inventory was in line with the five-year average.
